Washington County Sheriff Claude Combs said it appears that both speed and alcohol were factors in a fatal traffic accident that took place in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 14.

Dead is Tommy Sparkman, 35, Salem.
Combs said the accident happened just after 3 a.m. while officers were finishing up a death investigation on West Vincennes Trail in Salem when they were called to the scene.
Combs said the accident happened at the intersection of Dog Trot and State Road 60.
“The vehicle went off the road and he was ejected,” Combs said.
Alan Taylor of the Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy Alan Taylor worked the scene.
A complete obituary for Sparkman can be found on page 6 of this section.
