“Come to the Fair” parade right around the corner; entries encouraged PDF Print E-mail

The popular “Come e Fair” parade is set for Sunday July 15 and the entire community is ill I to attend and/or participate starting at 3 p.m.
The event is once again being coordinated by the Scott County Fair Bo . Mike Mosier and Allen Richey, parade chairman said entries will be accepted up to 2:30 p.m. that Sunday.
Those who sign up by deadline will be eligible for trophies in the various categories offered. Motorists who come into the city’s downtown area early to pick out their favorite places from which to view the parade are reminded that there will be no parking around the downtown Courthouse square. Eliminating parking will enable floats and other parad entries to have ample space for traveling the parade route around the square.
The parade follows a fairly easy route. Participants will travel east on McClain Avenue from Bond Street and go three-fourths of the way around the square turning south on First Street and west on Wardell Street. It will continue west to U.S. Highway 31, then torn south and proceed to the Fairgrounds, passing through the
Fairgrounds past the show arena, cattle bam, horse arena and onto the road back to U.S. Highway 31.
Entries involving groups, especially children, are encouraged to plan ahead and notify parents if the group will disperse at the end of the route.
If so, these entries may pullout of the line and into the gravel lot south of the horse arena. All other entries are asked to continue past the parking lot and onto the road back to U.S. 31.
Entries must be registered no later than 2:30 p.rn. on the day of the parade in order to be eligible for awards. Mosier and Richey said the parade registration booth will be located on North Bond Street at the Scottsburg Post Office parking lot. There is no registration fee.
Awards will be presented to the best entry in the following categories: Fire Department, Automobile, Commercial, Civic or Community Organization, Equestrian, Judges’ Choice, Tractor and Best of Parade.
The Best of Parade award will be given to the entry which is considered by the judges to the most outstanding. Award winners in the parade will be notified at the end of the parade route. Awards may be picked up at the Fair Office before leaving the Fairgrounds. Local police officials have warned that only licensed drivers will be allowed to operate vehicles in the parade, and all cars and trucks must be licensed. No demolition derby, enduro or other race cars may be driven. They may however, be transported on trailers.
For safety reasons, no person under the age of 18 may ride a bicycle, tricycle, motorcycle, moped, scooter, mini-bike, three-wheeled ATV or any other vehicle that parade officials may consider hazardous unless the rider is accompanied by a parent or guardian over the entire course of the parade.
Thanks to the great turn out, our parade continues to grow in size. We continue to see new entries each year and invite all to participate this year.
Tractors should line up with the automobiles. Persons desiring more information about the parade or wishing to register to enter it may call Mosier at 752-7072 or Richey at 752-7770.
