Man dies in house fire in Pekin PDF Print E-mail

Richard Miller of Pekin died in a camper fire Wednesday (June 13).
Washington County Sheriff’s Department Captain Roger Newlon said at 7:35 a passerby saw smoke and called 911.
When the Pierce-Polk Volunteer Fire Department arrived on the scene Newlon said the camper located on the property on Old Pekin Road was fully engulfed.
Newlon said Miller’s wife was in the trailer located behind the one that caught fire.
“She told us that some times he leaves early to work, but she felt like he was probably inside,” Newlon said.
Washington County Coroner Rondale Brishaber said the exact cause of death has not been determined and likely won’t be known for three to four weeks when the toxocology report comes back.
Brishaber said at this time foul play is not suspected.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshall.
Pekin Town Marshall Jeff Thomas, the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, Pierce Polk and Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Department assisted on the scene.
