Sgt. Montgomery to be honored by Patriot Guard visit to Scottsburg PDF Print E-mail

Members of the Indiana Division of The Patriot Guard will conduct a memorial service at the gravesite of a local fallen soldier today (Saturday).

Diane Mullins, Executive Director of the Scott County Visitors Commission, said the Commission will be welcoming the motorcyclists to Scottsburg at approximately 3:45 p.m.

In this "Ride to Remember," the group will travel on State Road 56, heading west into Scottsburg and then proceed to Scottsburg Cemetery to honor U.S. Army Sgt. Robert J. "Joey" Montgomery. Sgt. Montgomery gave his life for his country while serving in Iraq on May 22, 2007.

The Patriot Guard's main mission is to attend the funeral services of fallen American heroes as invited guests of the families. A group was present at Sgt. Montgomery's funeral and burial. The Guard's priority is showing its respect for soldiers, veterans, families and their communities.

Anyone wishing to welcome the Patriot Guard may do so by watching from the roadsides and/or attending the service at Scottsburg Cemetery. The gravesite is located near the south border of the cemetery and can be reached by driving into the cemetery or from South Elm Street.
