| Man facing stiff penalty for breaking into home, taking small items |

by MARTY RANDALL Staff Writer Green Banner Publications Officers arrested a Lexington area resident for breaking into a Scottsburg home on May 17 and taking a few small items. Ernest Wayne Roberts, 31, of South State Road 3, Lexington, entered a not guilty plea to one charge of Class C felony burglary and one charge of Class D felony theft on Friday, May 25, in Scott Circuit Court. If found guilty of a C felony, the defendant could be sentenced to a term of two to eight years in prison. He allegedly broke into a home on U.S. Highway 31 and then took a matchbook and a metal four-leaf clover from the residence. On his not guilty plea, Roberts was assigned the services of a public defender and received a preliminary jury trial date of October 9. He remains incarcerated at the Scott County Security Center in lieu of a bond of $100,000 corporate surety/full cash.
