Three charged in recent case of Class C felony forgery, theft and conspiracy PDF Print E-mail

Two men and a woman have been charged with forgery, theft and conspiracy to commit forgery following an investigation conducted by the Austin Police Department.
Carl Ray Chandler II, 24, Austin, and Joshua L. Roberts, 24, Scottsburg, have already had their initial hearings on the criminal charges against them in Scott Circuit Court. An arrest warrant is still outstanding against Vickie Stidham, 48, Scottsburg.
The men have been charged with one count each of Class C felony forgery and conspiracy to commit forgery as well as one count each of Class D felony theft and conspiracy to commit theft.
Roberts is also charged with a fifth count, one of receiving stolen property, also a Class D felony.
Stidham’s charges include forgery and conspiracy to commit forgery, both Class C felonies, and one count of Class D felony receiving stolen property.
According to court paperwork, the trio allegedly worked together to steal a man’s checkbook and cash a check.
Roberts appeared in Circuit Court for his initial hearing on May 4. On his not guilty plea, Judge Roger Duvall assigned him a preliminary date for his jury trial, September 24. His bond was set at $40,000 corporate surety or 10% cash. He was appointed a public defender.
Chandler appeared on May 7 to plead not guilty to the charges and received his preliminary jury trial date of September 24. He was assigned a public defender. Bail was set at $40,000 corporate surety or full cash.
As of Monday, May 7, Stidham had not been located by officers. Her bail is set at $25,000 corporate surety/full cash.
