Two in custody in connection with Pekin bank robbery PDF Print E-mail

Two people, a man and a woman, were arrested today (Wednesday, May 2, 2012) in Deleware, Ohio in connection with Monday's bank robbery in Pekin.

Charges against Billy J. Dugard and his female companion Ashley Owens were filed in Washington County Wednesday afternoon.

"I am really proud of the work of all the local people involved," said Washington County Sheriff Claude Combs. "(Pekin Marshall) Jeff Thomas, Captain Roger Newlon and myself spent the better part of Wednesday working the case. We got some help from the state police, too and I am pleased with how this all came down."

Indiana State Police Detective Scott Stewart also assisted with the investigation.

Duggar has been charged with bank robbery and Owens faces charges of aiding in a robbery.

Combs said a number of things contributed to the arrest, one of which was the camera equipment in the PNC bank.

"That picture helped us a lot," he said. 'You couldn't have gotten a better look if you would have been standing there with a camera. That really helped because that picture was everywhere -- news organizations, facebook -- it was everywhere, so that certainly played a role.

The identity of the couple was learned early Wednesday morning, but police didn't release that information because of information that Dugard could be dangerous.

The couple is allegedly responsible for at least two additional robberies. More information will be posted as it is made available.

"They are prime suspects in at least two other robberies and maybe more," Combs said.

The couple remains in custody in the Deleware, Ohio, county jail.
