Barnes holds off Kempf in GAS 50 PDF Print E-mail

Fans who took to their seats early to watch the 50-lap feature of the Lucas Oil Great American Stocks were treated to an entertaining show by two Salem Speedway veterans.
Louisville’s Chuck Barnes Sr. help off Todd Kempf of Huntingburg, Ind. to claim the checkered flag.
Barnes is the all time winner at Salem Speedway and that experience showed as he made his way from third to first.
Kempf was dominant for the early part of the race, but it was obvious to those watching that before it was all said and done he’d be a factor.
Barnes took second on lap 20 and then worked to catch Kempf.
After holding on to what appeared to be a very loose race car for the first 44 laps, Barnes finally passed Kempf and held on for the win.
Kempf took second and Shawn Smith was third.
David Bayens and Kyle Hadley rounded out the top five.
Rounding out the top five were, Tony Conway, Nick Johnson, Roger Williams, Mike Matheis and Craig Rogers.
The next two events at Salem Speedway will be May 5 and May 19.
On May 5, the track will host the $1,000 to win Battle at the Banks Autocross.
On May 19, the Casey General Store Spring Speed Fest, presented by Salem True Value Hardware will hit the high banks.
The night of racing will feature the top Speed Modified Tour, Lucas Oil Great American Stocks, O’Reilly Auto Parts Pure Stocks and Salem Speedway Front Wheel Drive Stocks.
Plus there will be a “Faster Pastor” Race and Fireworks Show.
