CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children are in need of volunteers in Washington County.
Washington County currently has five volunteers working diligently for the children in our county, but five is not enough with 14 children on a waiting list for CASA volunteers.
CASA is a volunteer program with 65 counties in Indiana participating in this program
Washington County volunteers donated approximately 9,540 hours, if paid $50 per hour, these volunteers would have donated $477,000 to Washington County.
According to Jeanie Wood, Volunteer Coordinator, Washington County is in the process of holding a training class for September. Training consists of 30-40 hours done over a four to six week period.
The goal of CASA is to have a volunteer for every child, but volunteers are needed.
Volunteers are assigned a case by the judge and interview persons involved with the children and figure out what is in the best interest of the child and report back to the judge along with appearance in court possibly every 30-60 days.
CASA volunteers help out the missing pieces in a puzzle, in place helps the children. CASA is a stability factor for children.
Anyone one interested in volunteering can contact Wood at 883-2888 or stop by the office at 212 North Water Street.
