Bring friends and family for apple cider, autumn colors and a taste of small-town Americana during the Turkey Strut Bicycle Shimmy and 5K Sidewalk Shuffle in Salem, October 4.
With a parade start from Salem’s Bradie Shrum Lower Elementary School at 9 a.m., the Turkey Strut Bicycle Shimmy offers your choice of safe, scenic bike courses ranging from 10 to 60 miles through the Southern Indiana countryside. Routes are well-marked, and include homemade goodies like apple cider, cookies and parched corn at several SAG (Support and Gear) stops. New this year is the 5K Sidewalk Shuffle for those who’d rather walk than ride. Designed for families, the 5K walk includes snacks and free admission to the nearby Depot Railroad Museum and Stevens Memorial Museum.
Registered cyclists can also tour the museums after the ride without charge.
Early registration is just $15 through September 19 at www.mustdorides.com, while day-of-event registration is $25. Children 10 and under ride or walk for free. Several styles of sweatshirts and T-shirts will be available for purchase online and at the ride.
The Turkey Strut Bicycle Shimmy and 5K Sidewalk Shuffle is run by the organizers of the original Safari Bicycle Tour in Pekin, Indiana.
