Derby Dinner Playhouse has announced their 2012-2013 season.
DIXIE SWIM CLUB- May 15- July 1- Back by popular demand! A touching comedy about five southern women whose friendships began on their college swim team and span a lifetime. Watch as their lives hilariously unfold as the years pass and they weather the challenges life flings at them...together.
ANNIE- July 3- August 12- Leapin’ Lizards! American’s comic strip sweetheart takes center stage in one of the world’s best-loved musicals. This rags-to-riches classic comes alive with rambunctious orphans, comic villains, and of course the lovable dog Sandy. A delightful family favorite!
CHURCH BASEMENT LADIES 2- A SECOND HELPING- August 14- October 7- They’re servin’ up a sequel! This time around it’s 1969 and the world is changing and the ladies of the church basement are dealing with changes of their own and finding strength in one another. As always, you’ll laugh until your “side-dish hurts” at the hilarious antics and down-to-earth charm of the Lutheran ladies.
Agatha Christie’s- THE MOUSETRAP- October 9- November 18- Another hit from the undisputed queen of mystery. This classic who-dunnit is about a group of strangers stranded in a boarding house during a snow storm, and one of them is the murderer! A superb thriller that will keep you guessing until the dramatic end.
Irving Berlin’s- WHITE CHRISTMAS- November 20- December 31- Based on the popular movie, this timeless classic is full of dancing, laughter and some of the best songs ever written. This holiday musical comedy is sure to be one of the highlights of your Christmas season!
KILL JOY- January 9- February 17, 2013- Carol is being driven crazy by her charming monster of an ex-husband so she decides he has to die! This clever and romantic comedy/ thriller is full of fascinating characters and deals with the humor and drama of marriage.
LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS- February 19- March 31, 2013- A musical about a floral shop assistant who raises an exotic plant with a mysterious craving for fresh blood. Soon his plant grows into an ill-tempered, R&B- singing carnivore who offers him fame in exchange for feeding his growing appetite. Featuring early 1960’s rock n’roll, doo-wop and Motown music.
9 to 5- April 2- May 19, 2013- A new Broadway musical comedy that tells the story of three unlikely friends who conspire to take control of their company and learn there’s nothing they can’t do- even in a man’s world. This hilarious story of friendship and revenge is based on the hit movie and features a score written by Dolly Parton.
2012 Concert Season
The Alabama Blues Brothers- April 16- The Alabama Blues Brothers are the nation’s only “actual” brothers performing as a Blues Brothers Tribute. “The Brothers are backed by a seven piece show band that takes you back tow hat it was like to see and hear the real Blues Brothers as they toured the nation in 1980.
Country Royalty- May 7- Featuring Jason Petty and Carolyn Martin in a tribute to Hank Williams and Patsy Cline. Jason Petty re-creates the role he has become famous for, while Grammy nominated singing sensation, Carolyn Martin, gives a jaw dropping performance as Patsy Cline.
The World Famous GLENN MILLER ORCHESTRA- June 4- The legend lives on as this 19 member band continues to play the original Miller arrangements. Enjoy a special dessert matinee or evening concert with dinner.
Country Crossroads- August 20-  A knee-slappin’ country music show featuring the best regional country music artists in the Southern Indiana and Central Kentucky areas.
The Return- September 10- A Beatles Tribute! These four lads have carefully and skillfully recreated the Beatles experience and truly capture the energy and chemistry of the Fab Four.
HEARTBREAK HOTEL- ‘A Salute to Young Elvis’ Starring Robert Shaw- October 15- This critically acclaimed concert features the music of “Young Elvis” belting out hits from the first part of his career, starting in the mid-50’s through the early 60’s.
The Monarchs present “A Tribute to Rock, Rhythm & Doo Wop”- November 5- Kentuckiana’s favorite “oldies” rock n’ roll band will take you back to the days of sock hops and teen clubs. Relive your memories of the 60’s with the legendary Monarchs!
