Congratulations are in order for Floyd Central High School’s Dazzlers who came back from the Universal Dance Association’s 2012 National Dance Team Championship with the championship title in pom. This year’s win was extra special for the ladies, as it marked their 10th consecutive win in the category since 2003. The Dazzlers also brought home the championship title in the hip-hop category this year, a first for the group.
The National Dance Team Championship, which took place in Orlando, Fla. during the weekend of February 4 and 5, is the UDA’s most prestigious dance competition on the high school level and nearly 300 dance teams from across the country come out every year to compete for the top titles. Along with pom and hip-hop, dance teams can also choose to compete in the jazz or high-kick categories.
Twenty two students made up the 2011-12 team this year, including seniors Jenna Bain, Mallory Clark, Heather Copas, Jami Fancher and Brooke Sprigler. The group is coached by Todd Sharp.
If you weren’t able to make the trip down to Florida, you can still check out videos of the Dazzlers’ winning performances at www.varsity.com.
