?? ? The Washington County Parent Transition Fair will take place on Tuesday, September 9 at the Southern Hills Church in Salem beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The Parent Transition Fair is an informative and helpful venue for parents of children and other dependents with special needs to learn about the services and resources available to their families now and in the future.
The Washington County Transition Council presents this event annually to provide valuable information to parents and guardians in an effort to make the transition into daily community living easier and smoother for children with special needs. Where will your child live as an adult, will your child need guardianship papers or job placement assistance and how can estate planning assist you in the planning for your child’s future are just a few of the pressing questions the Fair addresses.
The event kicks off with dinner for all attendees from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. The various service provider representatives are available to give out information, answer questions or discuss particular issues throughout the evening, beginning at 6 p.m. and remaining open until 9 p.m. in the Sanctuary area.
The two speakers for this year’s event will be Dennis Johnson from Met Desk discussing Guardianships at a 7 p.m. session. Following at 7:30 p.m. is Kerry Bonney from The ARC Network speaking on statewide resources for people with developmental disabilities and their families.
The ARC Network is a group of advocates for persons with disabilities, working in each Bureau of Developmental Disabilities Services District throughout Indiana. Drawings for the Door Prizes will be at 8 a.m. Parents must be present to win.
The transition council was formed to provide networking between community partners and families who have dependents with disabilities. The Governor’s Council for People with Disabilities continues to support the Transition Fairs by providing funding for the events.
