Driving while impaired crackdown begins PDF Print E-mail
As of August 15, the Indiana State Police along with over 250 other police agencies across Indiana have begun participating in an Operation Pull Over, “Over the Limit under Arrest” campaign. This “Over the Limit under Arrest” project is being sponsored by a federal grant through the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute and with this grant officers will be concentrating on impaired drivers.
During this Operation Pull Over campaign officers will be working overtime conducting sobriety checkpoints, roaming patrols, and using other enforcement tools to catch impaired drivers. Officers will not only be looking for impaired drivers in cars but also motor carrier vehicles and motorcycles.
Last year over the Labor Day Holiday there were 11 deaths on Indiana roadways making it the second most deadly holiday on Indiana Roadways. As of August 14 of this year, in the state of Indiana, there have been 454 fatalities, this is 114 fewer fatalities as during the same period last year.
The Indiana State Police is issuing a very stern warning for all drivers to hear, “If you get caught by an Indiana State Trooper driving impaired, you will go to jail”!
This Operation Pull Over, “Over the Limit under Arrest” campaign began August 15 and continues until September 1.
