Hurley receives CMS Athlete of the Year award PDF Print E-mail

Josh Hurley was awarded the athlete of the year award by Charlestown Middle School for the school year 2010-2011.

The following is his athletic achievements for the year. Hurley was a three sport athlete being a member of the cross country, wrestling and track and field teams.

Cross Country

*Highest overall points earner for the cross country team

*Finished first in every cross country meet out of all Charlestown participants for the season

*Finished first place overall in the Charlestown home meet

Wrestling

*Finished the season with a record of 32-1.

*Wrestled up out of his weight class for the entire season. Hurley weighed approximately 160 pounds and wrestled competitors as high as 195 pounds.

*Won every invitational Charlestown competed in for his weight class

*Highest points earner for the team and the season

Track and Field

*High points earner for the season

*Finished first in every meet and invitational for the long jump that the team competed in

*Anchored the 4 x 200 meter relay team that set a new school record

*Set a new school record in the 100 meter dash and did so by besting a previous record that had been held since 1978

*Mid Southern Conference champion in the long jump

*Mid Southern Conference champion in the 100 meter dash

Hurley received an honorary award competing in three school sports for the year.

Other athletic accomplishments inside and outside of school for 2010-2011 include:

*Member of the Charlestown Pirates wrestling club and competed in freestyle and folkstyle wrestling

*Qualified and competed in the folkstyle state championships and finished ninth in his weight class

*Competed in the 2010 Indiana State Teen Bodybuilding Championship and finished second

*Adheres to a strict weight training schedule and diet regimen year round for self and athletic improvements

*Trained all year and has currently been dieting to compete in the 2011 Teen Indiana State Body Building Championship which was held July 23 in Indianapolis.
