The fourth annual Charlestown Balloon Glow and Race will be held this weekend at Charlestown State Park.
Balloon Glow
The Balloon Glow will be held this Friday, June 17 from 7 to 10 p.m.
During the balloon glow, the public is able to walk among the balloons, observe how a crew puts a balloon into flight ready status from the bag it is stored in, and talk to the pilots. But the sight both from within and a distance away is an unforgettable sight.
Twilight never looked so beautiful as the balloonists light up their burners setting their hot air balloons aglow simultaneously against the sunset.
Free admission to the park after 6 p.m.
The Balloon Race
This main event is a classic “hounds and hare” balloon race. At 7 p.m., the hare balloon launches from Charlestown State Park Field and gets a short head start, before being chased by the other balloons.
Their goal is to follow the hare balloon route, and, after the balloon lands, drop a bag of birdseed as close to its landing site as possible.
The one who comes closest to the hare balloon birdseed bag wins the race.
Free admission to the park after 6 p.m.
Bring your lawn chairs, flashlight, camera, sunscreen, bug spray and enthusiasm and enjoy lots of family fun!
