Wireless Advisory Board to meet
Members of the Scottsburg Wireless Advisory Board will next meet at 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 20, at Scottsburg City Hall. Meetings are open to the public.

Scottsburg City Hall closed January 17
Scottsburg City Hall will be closed on Monday, January 17, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Trash normally picked up on Monday will instead be collected on Tuesday, January 18.

Austin Parks Board meets January 6
Members of the Austin Parks Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 6, to conduct business.
The meeting will take place in the Community Building at Manaugh Park and is open to the public.

Chili cook-off Jan. 8
The Scott County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6582 Men’s auxiliary is hosting a chili cook-off on Saturday, January 8, at 12 noon. The all you can eat meal is $4. Chili judged for first, second and third place winners. Everyone is invited to attend. The post is located on U.S. 31, between Scottsburg and Austin.

Lexington Historical Society meets on January 24
All are invited to attend the Monday, January 24, meeting of the Lexington Historical Society at the Lexington Christian Church’s fellowship hall.
The hall is located at the corner of Alexander and Hunt Streets.
The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. and will feature local historian Joe Gibson. He will show a video of his grandfather, the late Ray Wells, on a tour of Nabb, Saluda and Hanover. Refreshments will be served.

SHS Class of 1956 to meet Jan. 26
The Scottsburg High School Class of 1956 will meet for their quarterly breakfast at the Cracker Barrel Restaurant on Wednesday, January 26, at 8 a.m. All classmates, spouses, and guests are invited to attend. For further information call 752-2811 or 752-6263.

Regional Sewer District Board to meet
The next business meeting of the Scott County Regional Sewer District Board of Directors will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, January 5.
Meetings are open to the public and are held in the Commissioners’ Room on the first floor of the Courthouse in downtown Scottsburg.

Ladies aerobics classes offered
Ladies aerobics classes are being offered absolutely free through First Christian Church in Scottsburg. Barbie Hunefeld will lead classes on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. and on Sundays at 4:30 pm at the FCC shelter house located at 750 S. Gardner Street (just across from HOLM industries).

GED classes offered at LLLC
Need a New Years resolution that will last a life time? If you don’t have a high school diploma now’s the time to get your GED. Morning and afternoon classes are offered Monday through Thursday, from 8 to -11a.m. and 11am to 2pm.
Language/Reading and Math classes taught through the week. Coming soon, GED instruction on-line. For more information call the Adult Learning Center at 812-752-6438.

CEASe meeting set for Jan. 6
The next monthly meeting of CEASe of Scott County will be this coming Thursday, January 6, 12-1 pm, in the Scott County Courthouse Basement Conference Room.
We look forward to seeing you there as we will be making plans for 2011. In addition, Shannon Mount will be speaking about a program with which she is involved at the elementary level.
Please RSVP to me if you are coming and tell me those who do not want a salad or sandwich lunch from The Coffee House by this coming Wednesday at 11 am.

Crafts for ladies begin in January
Staff of the Scott County Public Library in Scottsburg plans to begin a series of crafting hours for ladies in January. A variety of hands-on crafts is being planned just for fun. Occasionally, demonstrations may be offered. Ideas are welcome and can be provided to the library by calling at 752-2751 or by visiting the library, located at the corner of South Main and Wardell Streets.
Additional information will be published about sessions scheduled in coming weeks.

Austin dumpster service open January 7
The dumpster service that is available for large objects and free to all residents of Austin will next be offered at the Austin sewage treatment plant on Friday, January 7.
Those planning to bring large objects to the dumpster should bring their personal identification and proof of residency, such as the stub of a sewer bill.
Hours that day will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The entrance to the plant is at South Fifth Street and York Road.

SWCD annual dinner meeting is Feb. 3
The annual dinner and meeting sponsored by the Scott County Soil and Water Conservation District. Dinner begins on Thursday, February 3, at 6:30 p.m. in the Scottsburg High School Commons, 500 South Gardner Street, Scottsburg.
This year’s speaker is Hans Kok. He will be talking about the benefits of Cover Crops.
Tickets are $5.00 per person. Snow date will be February 10, 2010. For more information or to order tickets, please call 812-752-2269, extension 114.

Curbside recycling in Austin, Scottsburg
Residents and businesses in Austin and Scottsburg have curbside recycling available to them twice a month.In December, Scottsburg recyclables may be placed at curbside on the Wednesdays of January 5 and 19. In Austin, recyclables will be collected on two Thursdays, January 13 and 27.
Participants must have their recyclables at curbside by 7 a.m. on the date of pick-up. There is no charge for the service.
Call the Austin Mayor’s Office at 794-6646 and Scottsburg City Hall at 752-4343 to learn how to obtain a recycling bin and what types of recyclables are accepted.

Clearinghouse open January 8 for donations
The Scott County Community Clearinghouse will be open from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, January 8, to accept donations from the public. Normally, the Clearinghouse would be open on the first Saturday of the month, but because of holidays, the facility will open its doors for contributions on the second Saturday. Good, used clothing and coats for the winter, canned and non-perishable food and household items will be accepted at the Clearinghouse during those hours. No distributions are planned.
Weekly hours at the Clearinghouse, located at 1057 Community Way in Scottsburg are: Monday through Wednesday from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.; and from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday.Persons may reach staff at 752-0123 during those hours.
