The investigation into the death of an 18-day-old infant from Scottsburg may continue for several more weeks, advised Scott County Prosecutor Jason Mount.
Gaven Henderson died at Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville, Ky., shortly after 12 noon on Wednesday, December 22. Reports released by the Indiana State Police indicate that the mother’s child called 9-1-1 for help after finding the baby unresponsive around 10:30 p.m. on December 21.
The baby was transported by Scott County EMS to Scott Memorial Hospital in Scottsburg, then transferred to the Louisville facility. ISP detectives with the Sellersburg post began an investigation there around 1:30 a.m. that Wednesday when doctors said the infant’s injuries were inflicted and life threatening.
Following an autopsy performed by the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville on Thursday morning, December 23, the child was found to have died of a “closed head injury,” according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.
Some paperwork on the case has been submitted to the Scott County Prosecutor’s Office. Prosecutor Mount offered no additional information but said he was awaiting further documents and findings regarding the child’s death.
No funeral arrangements for the baby have yet been made by his family.
