The Scottsburg Wal-Mart was filled with 120 smiling kids from Washington County on Saturday morning, as the annual Shop with a Cop took place. Many officers and volunteers in the community arrived at the Sheriff’s Department at 7 a.m. and were bussed to Scottsburg, where the children each received one complete outfit, including shirt, pants, socks, underwear, shoes, winter coat and a toy. The children took their time to pick of the outfit that suited them best and most knew what toy they were going to get.
After leaving Wal-Mart, all headed back to the Bradie Shrum Elementary, where the children had one more surprise, breakfast, provided by McDonald’s and Marie Lowery and a visit from Santa Claus.
At the beginning of this month, donations were said to down this year and by last week the donations really picked-up.
“The community has been great to this program, they really come out to support us including organizations, groups, businesses and individual. The out pouring support from the community is wonderful.” stated FOP Secretary, Jimmy Strange.
The Shop with a  Cop program took in over $18,000 this year, any money that is left from helping the 120 children, will be used to help any remaining 631 children who applied for the Christmas Assistance Program. Every penny will be spent to help the children.
