The Republican Party made its voice heard Tuesday, Nov. 2, during the 2010 primary election. Locally, Republicans won every contested seat for state and county offices.
One of the most watched races was the State Representative District 73 race between Republican Steve Davisson and Democrat Ryan Bower. Davisson won the seat with 5,353 votes, or by 68.38 percent.
Another race many were keeping an eye on was for the position of Washington County Circuit Court Judge. Long-time Democratic Judge Robert Bennett lost the seat to Republican Larry Medlock, by 918 votes.
Republican Kyra Stephenson defeated Democrat Sandra McKnight 5,663 votes to 2,683.
In county council and county commissioner seats, Republican John D. Fultz defeated Democrat Tom Day by a mere 315 votes for the County Commissioner District 2 seat. Fultz currently holds a seat on the Washington County Council.
Republicans Dawson Souder and John Revels ran unopposed for the County Council District 1 and 2 seas. Joining them on the council will be Republican David Hoar, who defeated Democrat John Agan, 1,507 votes to 713, and Republican Benjamin Bowling who defeated Democrat Donald Gilbert Jr. by 779 votes.
Other county positions that were unopposed were Republican Judge of the Superior Court Frank Newkirk, Jr., Republican Prosecutor Dustin Houchin, Republican County Auditor Sarah Bachman, Democratic Washington County Sheriff Claude Combs and Republican County Assessor Jason Cockerill.
In trustee races, Thomas Guthrie was elected in Brown Township, Steven Anderson in Franklin Township, David Weaver in Gibson Township, Kathleen Zelivetz in Howard Township, Andrew Newlon in Jackson Township, Charlotte Thompson in Jefferson Township, Lee Badger in Madison Township, Susan Boling in Monroe Township, Dennis Fleming Sr. in Pierce Township, Clair Sullivan Jr. in Polk Township, Michael Dohoney in Posey Township, Donald Guthrie in Vernon Township and Brice Robinson in Washington Township.
In the town of Campbellsburg, Anita Collins was elected clerk-treasurer and Tim Chastain was elected to the town council.
In Pekin, Sherry Clem was elected as town clerk-treasurer and Troy Hennette was elected to the Pekin Town Council.
On the East Washington School Board, Linda McClellan, Cecil Shrout and Brian Motsinger were all re-elected.
At West Washington, Rick Roberts and Leslie Batt were re-elected and  James Hughes was elected for his first term.
