At around 9 p.m. Friday night Gracie’s Quik Pik, which is located at the corner of Anson Street and State Road 56, was robbed.
According to Salem Police Cheif Scott Ratts, an employee has stepped outside to smoke a cigarette when a man wearing a baggie hooded sweatshirt approached her with a knife.
Ratts said he held her at knife point and directed her into the store where he took a case of cigarettes and more than an estimated amount of $4,000.
Ratts said he is pleased with both his departments response time and how the clerk handled the situation.
“She did absolutely everything by the book,” Ratts said. “And as far as our department from the time the call came on station and an officer was on the scene it was one minute and 10 seconds.”
The suspect left the store and headed down Salem Ave. in the direction of the county garage.
Ratts said there is limited information at this point about the suspect besides the fact that it is a male between 5’8” and 6’.
Ratts is asking anyone in the area who might have seen any suspicious people or vehicles in the area to call the SPD at 883-5100.
‘The brand for the case of cigarettes that he stole was Marlboro Lights, so if anyone is trying to sell them off the street or just giving them away, we ask that they call us with that information,” he said.
