The Floyd Central Theatre Season continues with the family musical, “Captain Louie” with music and lyrics from the composer of the immensely popular musical, “Wicked,” Stephen Schwartz. The younger roles in the play were cast last May and those cast members have teamed up with this year’s F.C.H.S. Musical Theatre Lab students to produce the hour long musical.
“Captain Louie” is the story of a young boy on Halloween night who escapes into his own imagination as a means of coping with the loneliness he feels when he moves to a new neighborhood. Of its initial production, The New York Times said “Captain Louie” captures “the sound and rhythm of music that runs through childhood fantasies with a book that conveys the communicative magic of the original story.”
Chris Bundy, Director of Floyd Central Theatre Arts, commented that the show has a deeper
connection than just another production on the schedule. He explained, “One of our graduates, Chelsea Pattison Conard, had the pleasure of doing the Broadway tour of the show. I well remember her call the day she arrived in New York fresh out of college to tell me she had her apartment and was going to start making the rounds to auditions. The next day she called ecstatic that she had been offered the title role of Louie in the tour of the show. Having played the role of Peter Pan both at F.C. and several summer theatres, she followed up by saying, ‘Another boy role!’ We are very proud of her and pleased to now share this show with the community.
The show will be presented in the new intimate 130 seat Floyd Central Studio One Theatre on September, 30 at 7 p.m.; October 1,2 and 3 at 7 p.m. with matinees at 2:00 p.m. also on October 2 and 3. Since the theatre has limited seating, advance reservations are strongly suggested to avoid disappointment. Tickets may be reserved by calling the 24-hour box office line at: 542-2284. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students. At the Saturday bargain matinee, all seats are $6. Parents bringing children are encouraged to bring cameras to take a picture of their child with a meet and greet session after the show.
Floyd Central High School is located at 6575 Old Vincennes Road in Floyds Knobs.
