On checking information at the Steven Museum, they have found records that the first Old Settler’s Days started October 1875 with many citizens meeting for stories of olden times. They came from everywhere, bringing their food for the meal and plans to have an enjoyable time together.
Now approximately 135 years later, they are again getting together to celebrate Old Settler’s Day with a meal catered by LaDonna Mitchell of Country Cookin on September 11 at 6 p.m., in the Assembly Room of the Museum which is handicap accessible.
The program will be by Cecil Smith, Stationmaster of The Depot. He will be speaking of “Newspaper Days.”
Reservations are required by September 7, with a cost of  $12 per meal.
