Community support once again put another success on the books for Silver Creek!
On Saturday, August 7, students, coaches, players, boosters and residents gathered at Silver Creek Township Park to kick off the 2010 athletic season at Silver Creek Middle and Silver Creek High Schools.
The day was filled with great music, beginning promptly at 4 p.m., participants were entertained by TOB (That One Band), followed by the always popular Rumors and last, but certainly not least, The Hi Tops put on a great performance and set the stage for the grand finale, lighting the Silver Creek bonfire.
The smell of grilled Dragon burgers and Dragon dogs permeated the air as coaches were soaked in the dunking both, high school cheerleaders gathered support to go to their national competition, basketballs were shot into hoops and bean bags were tossed, all in hopes of winning prizes such as tailgating supplies, an all season sports pass or some other great prizes.
Silver Creek football begins shortly so middle school Coach, Chris Costin introduced his players and high school Coach Mike Donahue joined his team members as they introduced themselves and announced what position they played.
Coach Donahue also announced the upcoming event “Football 101.” Anyone who has players on the field or just wants to understand football a little better should plan to attend this event. Participants will learn what function each position is supposed to accomplish, all about the signals you get from the referees, what different type plays are designed to do, and much more, all designed to help everyone understand and enjoy the game a little more.
Information on all Dragon football events is available at SCDragonfootball.com.
A very special thanks goes to Billy Ramser, Silver Creek Township, CarAmerica and the West Clark Football Boosters for sponsoring and organizing this event.
Special recognition should also go to the Silver Creek coaches and their teams that helped to make this first bonfire such a success.
