A total of $61,685.85 was earned by 4-H’ers who entered their animals in the annual 4-H Livestock Auction on Friday evening, July 16, at the Scott County fairgrounds.
The crowd was in a good mood that night and delighted to honor several 4-H’ers who reached the end of their ten-year career in the Scott County program.
Ten-year veterans included Brooke Clem, Britani Colwell, Evan Comer, Stephanie Dawson, Amber Gilbertson, Jacob Kirby, Jessica Mahan, Anna McGuire, Cody Pruett, Stacey Renschler, Phillip Richey and Shelby Sullivan.
Other 4-H’ers who had reached the age limit for participation were Torie Robbins, Shelby St. Clair and Chasity Williams.
4-H Ambassadors and Ambassador Program participants for the 2010 Fair were also recognized. They were Journey Kendall, Olivia Tucker, Jacob Murphy, Kyle Simpkins, Lauren Turner, Leighanna Miller, Jordanne Oaks and Isaiah Turner.
George Lucas Jr. presented scholarships from the George Sr. and Marjorie Lucas Fund. Recipients, all of whom had been involved in 4-H livestock projects over the years, included Cody Pruett, Britani Colwell, Jacob Kirby, Amber Gilbertson, Stacey Renschler and Chasity Williams.
Grand Champion Herdsman ribbons were handed out that evening to Randy Richey, beef; Madison Roll, swine; Journey Kendall and Chasity Williams, pigeon; Chance Miller, poultry; Emily Pfaffenbach, goat; and Logan Campbell, sheep.
Auction announcer Bob Hollis got the evening going by introducing lead auctioneer Tommy Cull and ringmen Cricket Jamison, Allen Jones and Bryan Richey. He also expressed thanks to the many bidders who came out that night to help 4-H’ers earn money toward their future educations.
He also thanked those businesses who offer hauling options to buyers. Those were: United Producers Inc. of Little York; Westport Lockers; Darlage’s Custom Meats of Seymour; Memphis Meats; and Pate’s Processing of Hanover.
Each Grand Champion animal shown by its proud owner had its photo taken for these newspapers with 2010 Scott County Fair Queen Lindsey Kilburn and one of the four Ambassadors, Isaiah Turner, Leighanna Miller, Jordanne Oaks and Lauren Turner plus the lucky bidder who got the animal.
