ABW group to hold yard sale
The ABW group from Underwood Baptist Church will be having a yard sale on Saturday, July 17, starting at 8 a.m. It is open to everyone. Come shop early and beat the heat.

Scottsburg Board of Works meeting set
Members of the Scottsburg Board of Works and Public Safety will meet for a special executive session at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, July 2, at Scottsburg City Hall.
At 8:45 a.m., the Board of Works will conduct a meeting which is open to the public.

Library Board to meet on July 14
Trustees of the Scott County Public Library will convene for their next monthly business meeting on Wednesday, July 14.
The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the library in downtown Scottsburg. The public is welcome to attend.

County museum closed July 5
The Scott County Heritage Center and Museum will be closed on Monday, July 5.
Regular hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.
The museum can be reached by calling 752-1050 or visited at 1050 South Main Street, Scottsburg.

Courthouse, City Halls closed on July 5
The Scott County Courthouse, Austin City Hall and Scottsburg City Hall will all be closed on Monday, July 5, because of the Independence Day weekend.
In Scottsburg, trash scheduled to be picked up on July 5 will instead be collected on Tuesday, July 6.
All local government offices will reopen at their regular hours on July 6.

Regional Sewer District Board to meet
The next business meeting of the Scott County Regional Sewer District Board of Directors will meet at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 7.
Meetings are open to the public and are held at 6 p.m. in the Commissioners’ Room on the first floor of the Courthouse in downtown Scottsburg.

Genealogical Society meets on Thursday
The Scott County Genealogical Society Inc. will meet on Thursday, July 1, at the Scott County Heritage Center and Museum, 1050 South Main Street, Scottsburg.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. There is no charge for attending these meetings, and all persons interested in genealogy are welcome to attend.

Vacation Bible School at New Song Church July 5-9
The New Song Church, located at 50 E. Madison Street in Scottsburg, located across from the Sale Barn, will hold a Vacation Bible School the week of July 5-9, from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
This year’s theme is “Saddle Ridge Ranch-rounding’ up questions, driving home answers.” Children of all ages are invited to attend each night.

VBS at Alpha Baptist Church
It’s Vacation Bible School at Alpha Baptist Church July 19-23, from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
The theme is “Saddle Up for Saddle Ridge Ranch,” where kids can ask questions and discover the answers found in God’s Word. During the evening at the ranch, kids will experience: Bible Study Bunkhouse, crafts at Blazing Star Stables, Music at Campfire Creek, Recreation at Mustang Mountain and snacks at the Big Sky Grill. The community is invited to attend.


Christian Church VBS starts July 25
Vacation Bible School at Scottsburg First Christian Church will follow the theme of “Hero’s Headquarters,” starting Sunday, July 25, through Wednesday, July 28.
All children are invited to come and learn how they can join forces with God and become real heroes as they study a few heroes from the Bible.
The four-day event will be from 6 to 8 p.m. each evening.

Curbside recycling in Austin, Scottsburg
Residents and businesses in Austin and Scottsburg have curbside recycling available to their twice a month.
In July, recycling dates in Austin will be Thursday, July 8, and Thursday, July 22. In Scottsburg, dates are Wednesday, July 14, and Wednesday, July 28.
Participants must have their recyclables at curbside by 7 a.m. on the date of pick-up. There is no charge for the service.
Call the Austin Mayor’s Office at 794-6466 and Scottsburg City Hall at 752-4343 to learn how to obtain a recycling bin and what types of recyclables are accepted.


Austin dumpster service open July 9 and 10
The dumpster service that is available for large objects and free to all residents of Austin will next be offered at the Austin sewage treatment plant on Friday, July 9, and Saturday, July 10.
Those planning to bring large objects to the dumpster should bring their personal identification and proof of residency, such as the stub of their sewer bill.
Hours both days will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Austin Parks Board won’t meet in July
Members of the Austin Parks Board will not meet in July.
The board voted at its meeting on June 17 to not meet unless emergency business occurs. In August, the board will revert back to meeting on the first Thursday evening of the month.
That means the board will next meet to conduct business at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 5, in the Community Building at Manaugh Memorial Park, Austin.
Business meetings are open to the public.


Scottsburg Water Board Report is Available as an Insert Today
The Scottsburg Water Department has released its annual report discussing the findings of the tests done on its water supply for the past year. A copy of the report is in this newspaper as an insert on June 30. Those having questions about the report may contact Scottsburg City Hall at 752-3434 or the Scottsburg Water Department.
