The Indiana High School Athletic Association boys’ and girls’ track sectionals were last week.
Floyd Central claimed a championship in the team scoring of both the boys’ and girls’ meets.
In the girls’ meet New Albany and North Harrison rounding out the top three.
Among other schools in the coverage area, Borden was seventh and Lanesville finished eighth.
North Harrison was second in the boys’ meet with Borden finishing 10th and Lanesville finishing 11th.
The following is a list of local athletes who finished in the top four and will be advancing to this week’s regional competition.
Girls’ regional qualifiers
North Harrison’s Emily Giles won the 100-meter dash, posting a time of 13.18 seconds.
In the 200-meter dash, Floyd Central’s Meghan Jones took first with a time of 26.70 seconds and Giles was third for North Harrison.
Jones also took first in the 400-meter dash with teammate Kelsey Mayfield finishing third.
The Lady Highlanders Hannah Keehn was first in the 800-meter run and teammate Alyssa Moore was fourth.
FC’s Hannah Watkins was third in the 1,600-meter run.
Chelsea Reidinger was second in the 3,200-meter run and Lanesville’s Miranda Kaake took fourth.
Nikki Roberts finished first in the 100-meter hurdles with North Harrison’s Mallory Allgeier and Megan Naegele finishing second and third, respectively.
Roberts also finished first in the 300-meter hurdles with Allgeier and Naegele again rounding out the top three.
Floyd Central’s 4 x 100 meter relay team took second. Members of that team were Laura Der, Carmen Keehn, Payton Rice and Nikki Roberts. North Harrison’s team of Emily Giles, Kasey Kelley, Naegele and Kennedi Winn, finished third.
The Lady Highlanders also advanced in the 1,600-meter relay. Members of that team were Alyssa Moore, Marissa Samons, Hannad Keehn and Kelsey Mayfield.
In the 3,200-meter relay, FC’s team finished first. Runners were Kaitlin Hein, Keehn, Moore and Samons. Borden was fourth in the relay. Members of the Lady Braves’ team were Leslie Beatty, Nikki Carter, Megan Frascella and Rachel Kirchgessner.
Meghan Jones was fisrt for Floyd in the high jump and Alyssa Moore finished fourth.
In the pole vault, Sarah Schraffenberger finished first and Brittany Helmer took second. Both were competing for FCHS. North Harrison’s Maria Fessel was third in the pole vault.
Giles was third for North Harrison in the long jump.
Borden’s Melissa Hunt finished second in the shot put and North Harrison’s Amanda Hartley was third.
Hartley won the discus, while Floyd Central’s Der was second and Lanesville’s Sara Hausz took third.
The girls’ track regional was Tuesday, May 25. Results were not available at press time, but will appear in next week’s issue of The Banner Gazette.
Those finishing in the top four at regional will compete in the state finals in Bloomington on Friday, June 4.
Boys’ regional qualifiers
Floyd Central’s Kyle Bramble was third in both the the 100- and 200-meter dashes.
The Highlanders Austin Wirth was second in the 400-meter dash and Blake Bramer was third.
North Harrison took the top two spots in the 800-meter run. Jonathan Reynolds was first and Ryan Foster took second.
The Cougars were also first and second in the 1,600-meter run. Tyler Byrne was first, with Reynolds finishing second. Floyd Central took the third and fourth spots. Cory Portwood was third and Matt Hamilton finished fourth.
Byrne and Cougar teammate Johnnie Guy were first and second in the 3,200-meter run.
FC’s Brian Wagner was third in the 110-meter hurdles with North Harrison’s Jarod Richards taking fourth.
Richards won the 300-meter hurdles for North Harrison with FC’s Quinton Miller taking second.
The Cougars were third in the 400-meter relay. Members of that team were Hector Bautista, Jacob Cundiff, Sean Drury and Cody Morgan.
Floyd Central won the 1,600-meter relay. Members of that team were Blake Bramer, Taylor Lessig, Quinton Miller and Jimmy Nungester. North Harrison took second in the event. Members of the Cougar

North Harrison won the 3,200-meter relay. Members of that team were Book, Byrne, Kyle Chesser and Ryan Foster. Floyd Central was fourth. Their team was made up of Matt Hamilton, Logan Kelley, Chris Pepin and Cory Portwood.
In the high jump, North Harrison’s Jarod Richards was third.
Borden’s Shelby Willis was second in the pole vault. He was sanwhiched by two FC athletes. Logan Kelley finished first and Blake Moutoux was third. North Harrison’s Ben Avery also advanced to regional with a fourth-place finish.
Robb marcus was third for the Cougars in the long jump.
Two throwers from Floyd Central will advance in the shot put. Andrew Archer was second and Aaron Blair finished fourth.
In the discus, the Highlanders Codie Hamsley was second and Austin Faulkenburg finished third.
The boys’ track regional will be Thursday (May 27) also at Bloomington North.
Top four finishers who advance from regionals will compete in the boys’ state finals June 5, also at IU.
