The identity of two people who died in a plane crash Sunday night have been released.

Elizabeth and David Schump of Winsor, Colo. Were en route from Costal Georgia to Bowman Field in Louisville when their plane crashed near State Road 111.

The couple was flying a turbp-prop Piper aircaft. The crash happened just after 8:21 p.m.

According to a story in the Louisville Courier-Journal, witnessees told police that shortly before the crash the aircraft corkscrewed into the ground. They heard the engine cutout and restart while it was still airborne, the story said.

Floyd County Coroner Leslie Knable told the Courier that the couple had booked a hotel in Louisville, but their reason for the trip is unknown.

Autopsies were performed on both victims Monday in Louisville.

The cause of the crash has not been determined, but authorities from the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Department, Floyd County EMS, Floyd County Coroner’s Office, Louisville Metro Police Department and New Chapel Fire and Rescue assisted on the scene.
