|Lanesville Schools receive Harrison County Community Foundation grant for beautification|

The Lanesville Community Schools have received a grant of $40,000 from the Harrison County Community Foundation (HCCF) for beautification of the northern hillside along the track which runs alongside Meadowlark Drive in Lanesville.
The endowment came from local boosters of the school corporation and will be interest drawing, and will be used to keep the area beautified for years in the future.
The area also includes the northern edge of the tennis courts, which are also on Meadowlark Drive.
The area is near a flood plain next to Indian Creek, which winds through Lanesville on the northern side of State Road 62.
The Lanesville Future Farmers of America (FFA) will actually be doing the work with the shrubs, mulch, and landscaping that will be done in the project.
Any funds left over form the project along Meadowlark Drive will be used for other beautification projects on Lanesville School Corporation property. The money in the funds for beautification will draw an expected 5 percent per year.
In other financial matters, the board voted to approve renewal of the health insurance contract with Anthem, sold by Rick Kochert of Kochert Insurance.
The cost will increase by 6 percent from the 2008-09 school year.
The board also accepted several donations on behalf of various organizations within the school corporation.
1. The school’s boys’ basketball program was the recipient of a $1,000 from Pacers and Racers, Inc., 2. Brian Engleman donated $25.00 for water used during the Heritage Weekend Festival, 3. Metro United Way donated $500 for the High School Student Council Youth Summit held on November 10, 2009, and 4. Funds for the Arts 2009 Campaign donated $27.00 for either transportation or tickets to an arts event for Lanesville elementary.
In other business, the board: Approved the following dates for use by the Franklin Twp. Farm Bureau for their quarterly meetings: February 9, May 11, August 10, and November 9, 2010.
