     At the YMCA, your time and talent go a long way. Every hour you spend as a YMCA volunteer translates into a better community and a better future for young people. It contributes into a safer, more viable community that's a good place to live and work.
    YMCAs are first and foremost volunteer organizations. To put it in perspective, not every YMCA has a building, but every YMCA has volunteers. All 2,663 YMCAs in the United State are volunteer driven. Local volunteers establish and run YMCAs. This insures that the local Y meets the needs of their community.
    As a YMCA volunteer you can help in wide variety of ways. The Washington County YMCA is seeking volunteers to serve on committees and the board of directors. Volunteers on the board or committees typically volunteer 2 to 4 hours pre month. We ask that they attend regularly scheduled meetings, make an annual donation to the Y, and seek donations as needed. Committees for Washington County YMCA
    Executive Committee: Composed of officers of the board and other duly appointed members.  It is recommended that the immediate past president serve on this committee.  The committee is authorized to act upon all business requiring immediate attention between regular meetings of the board as well as matters specifically delegated to it by the board.  
    Planning, Operations and Programs:  Responsible for the development of annual association goals and objectives, long-range strategic planning and recommending program priorities to the board of directors.  Audits all existing programs for relevancy in meeting the Y's objectives.
    Human Resources: Recommends the Y’s policy and procedure for personnel, including salary administration, benefits, performance reviews, policy manuals, board training, recruitment and training of volunteers.
Membership, Public Relations and Publicity:  Recruitment and follow-up of new members, exit interviews of members leaving, satisfaction audit of members; responsible for the public image of the association, media relations; develops and implements a strategy to build good relationships with local, state and national public officials and organizations.
Financial Development:  Coordinates and recommends policies related to fundraising, including the annual support campaign, Fund razor, endowment/planning giving, and also involved in capital campaign planning
    Finance:  Responsible for overall direction and control of association’s finances and business practices.  It monitors and recommends the annual budget, insurance coverage, accounting systems and audit guidelines,
    Property and Facilities:   Monitors maintenance of buildings, grounds, and capital assets of the association.  It reviews proposals for new facilities, renovation, major repairs, and acquisition and disposition of property and makes recommendations to the board concerning construction projects.  
    Capital Development: Identifies future expansion needs of the organization. Coordinates and recommends studies, plans, and research related to building projects. Identifies need of the community and identifies funding sources.
