New Life Christian Church of Lanesville will host a full day of activities on Saturday, November 21.
The event, which includes a corn hole tournament, spaghetti supper and entertainment is free, but a love offering will be taken to help raise funds for Eric Konick and his mission trip.
Konick is one of more than 100 young men and women who have been chosen to take part in the World Race.
He said he developed a passion for missions after hearing a sermon by his pastor, Pete Baumgartle.
Baumgartle described some of the more dire circumstances facing some smaller countries and Konick said he felt God's call right then and there.
“I spoke with my pastor after church that day and he asked me 'Well, where do you want to go?' and I told him I didn't know, I just know that I wanna do something!” Konick said.
That led to Konick being part of a team that headed to Dilkon, Arizona for a week-long mission trip on the Navajo Indian reservation.
“It was awesome,” Konick said of the trip. “I didn't know what to expect but what I got was more than I ever could have bargained for. I know that the Lord has called me to this awesome field of ministry.”
Shortly after returning, the opportunity to to take part in the World Race presented itself.
Konick said after researching the trip, he knew instantly that he wanted to go.
“I look forward to seeing how God will use me in His ministry and in His world,” he said.
The trip is costly, but will take those participating to 11 different countries in 11 months. The day of activities is to help raise funds for the trip.
A meal consisting of spaghetti, salad and homemade rolls will be served beginning at 6 p.m. and the concert will begin at approximately 7 p.m.
A corn hole tournament will be held prior to the event. The cost to enter the tournament is $10 per team. The team that finishes first will win a set of corn hole boards.
The music will consist of praise and worship songs as well as some mainstream selections.
There will be a short intermission and concessions will be available.
