The award-winning Floyd Central Theatre Department will present the Charles Dickens tale of Oliver Twist, in the classic musical theatre adaptation, "Oliver!" November 6, 7, 8, 13, 14 & 15.
The renovated performing arts center of Floyd Central will be transformed into the London streets of the 1800's as Dicken's familiar characters including The Artful Dodger, Fagin, Nancy, Bill Sykes, Oliver and Mr. Bumble are brought to life along with all the other characters that have made this musical a perennial favorite among theatre-goers. Popular songs from the show include, "As Long As He Needs Me;" "Consider Yourself;" "Where Is Love?;" and "I'd Do Anything" among others.
It has been several decades since the school has staged the musical. Floyd Central's director, Chris Bundy, commented that the previous production staged in 80's was the first show at Floyd Central he designed. Bundy further commented, "At the time the school did the original production, Glenn Edwards was the director of the theatre program and asked me to design the set which, at that time was the largest set ever built on the stage. Little did I realize that I would one day be taking over the program at F.C."
More than two hundred cast and crew members make up the show's company and a wonderful orchestra completes the production. The leading role of Oliver is double cast with Ryan Bickett and Gage Griffin sharing the honors and the role of The Artful Dodger is being shared by Adam Cantrell and Mitchell Lewis. Matt Payne, a Floyd Central theatre alumni, will return to the F.C. stage in the guest role of Mr. Bumble.
Other leading roles include Sarah Novak as Nancy; Abe Patrick as Fagin; Tyler Dippold as Bill Sykes; Cassie Gutman and Brandis Dewilligen sharing the role of Widow Corney; Joseph Trudeau as Mr. Sowerberry and Dallyn Brunck and Alex Criss sharing the role of Mrs. Sowerberry.
Tickets for the production are $12 for adults; $10 for senior citizens and $8 for students. V.I.P. upgrades are available for an additional $6 per ticket. V.I.P. upgrade includes preferred seating and an upscale intermission lounge with food. The November 6, 7, 13 & 14 performances begin at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday matinees on November 8 & 15 begin at 2:00 p.m. Tickets may be reserved by calling the Floyd Central Theatre Box Office Line at 812-923-8811 Extention 3527.
Floyd Central High School is located at 6575 Old Vincennes Road in Floyds Knobs.
