The Pirate Football Team (7?2), 2009 Mid?Southern Conference Champions for the third consecutive year, suffered a disappointing setback at Lawrenceburg last Friday to end an otherwise very successful regular season.
Lawrenceburg prevailed on a cold and rainy night 20?14. The Pirates scored the first points of the game in the second stanza when senior Michael Baines carried the ball 93 yards from the line of scrimmage to score and give the Pirates a 6?0 lead. The Pirates scored again in the fourth when freshman quarterback Gage Brafford connected in the air with senior Jordan Williams for a 50 yard touchdown strike. Senior Michael Baines added a two point conversion run to reduce the Pirates deficit to six; 20?14, with a little more than four minutes remaining.
The Pirates however were unable to score again and dropped the contest with eyes now set on the state tournament.
Pirate Pride Sports Broadcasting named Senior Michael Baines the Tumbletown Offensive Player of the Game while naming Junior Jake Dent, who finished the game with a total of 16 tackles, the Tumbletown Defensive Player of the Game.
