State Police use tips to track down alleged thieves at Hardy Lake beach PDF Print E-mail

Indiana State Police with the Sellersburg post recently used tips from the public to help capture a couple of alleged thieves.
On July 10, troopers were dispatched to the Hardy Lake beach area to investigate a theft. Victims told the officers that someone had gained entry to their unlocked car and taken a wallet and other items which included an iPod, a cell phone and a GPS system. Other folks visiting the beach supplied troopers with descriptions of two young men and their car. Using those tips, troopers matched the descriptions to James Stephan Tharp, 22, Crothersville, and Eric Lee Couch, 23, Austin.

Austin couple arrested for alleged animal abandonment/neglect of three dogs PDF Print E-mail

Three dogs remain in the custody of the Scott County Animal Shelter while their alleged owners face criminal charges in Scott Superior Court.

 

According to the probable cause affidavits filed in the cases of George Helton, 28, and Rebecca G. Smith, 25, the three canines, all mixed breed boxers, were found by animal shelter staff "...to be emaciated and in poor health..." at the end of June. There was no food or water for any of the dogs, the document stated, and all were on separate chains around the West York Road home of Helton and Smith.
