EHS, SHS alumni banquets scheduled PDF Print E-mail

The Pekin/Eastern Alumni Banquet will be held on Saturday evening, April 28, at 6:30 pm in the Eastern High School cafeteria. Doors open at 5:30 pm. The classes of 1962, 1987, 2002 and 2012 will be honored.
The cost of tickets is $15. They are being sold at the New Washington State Bank in Borden, the PNC Bank in Pekin, and the PNC, First Harrison and Mid-Southern Banks and Salem Electric in Salem.

2012 Splash and Shiver for Blue River raises $7600 PDF Print E-mail

The third annual Splash and Shiver for Blue River was held on Saturday, March 24th.  Temperatures were a little on the cool side as Buffalo Trace Park hosted the event – starting with the addition of a 1 mile walk and a 5k run and leading up to 20 participants who took “The Dash to Raise Cold Cash.”  The event opened with prayer led by Edith Bleecker of Lanesville United Methodist Church and the singing of the National Anthem by Jim Aich.

More than $11,000 raised for Big Brothers Big Sisters PDF Print E-mail

Thanks to the efforts of many Washington County residents, businesses and organizations, $11,442.84 was raised at the 13th Annual Bowl for Kids Sake. The event is the main fundraiser for Washington County’s Big Brothers Big Sisters program.
A total of 39 teams competed in the event, with 14 of those teams coming from GKN Sinter Metals.
Last year, the company had eight teams participate. This year, they wanted to have a GKN hour of bowling, so they put together 14 teams, which took up all the lanes for the 2 p.m. time slot.

Artisans and Farmers Market opens Saturday in Pekin Park PDF Print E-mail

The Pekin Park normally sits idle for most weeks of the year. On Saturday a new resident, The Washington County Artisan Farmer’s Market, moves in and will offer local residents a unique shopping experience while showing off one of the town’s hidden treasures.
The market, which is the community project of the Awareness Washington County Class of 2011, is the first of it’s kind in the area. All items are home grown or hand made.

Morgan’s raiders turn back EHS softball team in county clash PDF Print E-mail

Salem junior Morgan Hasty used her bat, her glove and her arm to help lift the visiting Lady Lions over Eastern last Thursday evening in Pekin.
Hasty and SHS freshman Alex Davidson each drove in runs in the first inning against the Lady Musketeers, giving Salem a 3-0 lead and control of the game.
