Town of Pekin to pay $51,853.75 to Guthrie PDF Print E-mail

    At the recent Town of Pekin meeting held on November 17, discussion between Town of Pekin Attorney Alice Bartanen and the Council regarding Guthrie vs New Pekin and having the verdict in favor of Plaintiffs (Guthrie) with a judgement in the sum of $51,853.75 plus any  past interest due. Bartanen advised the Council that this amount needs to be paid promptly or other interest will begin to accrue to judgement amount. Bartanen also advised the Council to make a counter offer of the $15,000 amount requested for the pre-judgement interest from the Plaintiffs. The council agreed to have the judgement sum paid and to counter offer $5,000 with bargaining range of no more than $12,000 for pre-judgement interest. The Council gave permission for the Town Manager, Gary Nale along with Attorney Bartanen to settle as soon as possible.
    In other business:
    Gary Nale reported that he is working up a draft on the building code enforcement and would follow up at the December meeting. Nale also reported that CSX is discontinuing service but will not abandon lines and he has been discussing concerns about railroad bridge and the up keep of the crossings, also reported by Nale, the property on Naugle Road was cleaned up by the owner, the town will not be cleaning it up or placing a lien against it and also stated the Farm Bureau building is going to be torn down within the next week or so.
    The claims, minutes and the 2010 sewer budget for USDA bond purposes was approved.
    The next regular board meeting will be December 15 at 7 p.m.
